In 2011, the EAYC began as a community outreach in Elkhorn. It was created to provide a safe, welcoming setting for middle and high school students. Kids are able to hangout with friends, play games and work on their homework.
The center was completely funded and staffed by Southern Lakes Evangelical Free Church, but eventually exceeded the funds and availability of volunteers from the church.
Because of the success and relatively quick popularity of the center, it became evident that the need for such a place in our community was great. What started as a small space open a few hours a week has now evolved into a larger community-based youth center. We are dedicated to providing students with encouragement and support by interacting with positive adult role models. By offering students a safe, supervised and supportive place to hang out in, we are investing in the future of our community.
Our goal is to ensure the EAYC will be fully staffed and serving students after school five days a week. Come make a difference in a student's life! Volunteering in easy and we need all the help we can get through donations and volunteers like you. With your help, students can play games, snack, talk and complete homework. The center will be staffed by trained volunteer mentors, as well as a dedicated staff.
